iOS 16: Rumors, Leaks, News, and release date

IOS 16 Apple

The date for Apple’s 2022 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) has been chosen. From June 6 to 10, we’ll hear about everything Apple software at a virtual-only event. That suggests we’ll hear about iOS 16 during WWDC because that’s when Apple usually introduces its new operating systems.

The annual update is always a significant one, with new features, modified system apps, and other upgrades. How will it compare to the previous update, which had major features such as Universal Control and Live Text?

We’ll go over everything of the news, rumors, leaks, pricing, and release date information we have, and we’ll keep updating this piece as more information from Apple and other sources becomes available.

When will Apple Launch IOS 16?

Which version of the operating system you’re talking about determines when iOS 16 will be released. On June 6, at the WWDC keynote, we’ll get a quick glimpse at an early version of it.

Then, in the weeks following WWDC, Apple will unveil an early developer version. Following that, we’ll get a public beta with multiple rounds of upgrades leading up to the big release.

The final version of iOS 16 will be released in September or early October. The next major version of Apple’s operating system is always published around the same time as the newest iPhone.

Which Apple Devices will run iOS 16?

For a couple of years, Apple hasn’t modified the device requirements for running iOS. Every iPhone since the iPhone 6S, as well as the iPod Touch, falls within this category (Seventh generation).

According to a story heard by DigitalTrends, that will alter this year. The iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, and SE (2016) will not receive the iOS 16 update. As a result, the iPhone 7 is the first iPhone to receive the new operating system. Now, keep in mind that this is just a rumor at this point, so don’t get too enthusiastic.

The only device for which we can be certain Apple will release iOS 16 is the upcoming iPhone 14 series.

What new features will Apple announce?

Considering iOS is a closed source, we can’t really know much about it until Apple tells us to. Unlike Android, there are no public code repositories that leak information.

The only rumor we could uncover mentioned interactive widgets on iOS. However, considering the leaker’s track record, it might just either be a genuine leak or perhaps a misfire.

The interactive widgets do look interesting though. Imagine finally being able to control things on your iPhone via widgets, instead of them only being informational.

What do we want iOS 16 to include?

Right now, we’re in wishlist land. The most significant element we’d like to see in iOS 16 is an expansion of the two-factor authentication system.

iOS can now obtain 2FA codes from your SMS inbox, but that’s not as safe as it could be. It would be awesome if that system could be extended to handle 2FA codes from Authy, Google Authenticator, and any other authentication tool.

It would also be amazing if Messages could support RCS. Why can’t we send emojis and other graphics to our Android friends? When it’s not to another iPhone, why do we even have to put up with unsafe messaging?

We’d also want to see a redesign of several of the system apps. The Home app is a confusing mess that needs cleaning. HomeKit is great, but it isn’t supported by every manufacturer. Perhaps Apple is cognizant that HomeKit is on its way out as Matter has become the de facto smart home standard.

As more rumors and leaks come in the weeks leading up to WWDC 2022, we’ll keep adding to this piece.
